How am I supposed to get into college if I suck at math?
Im good at everything else except for math. My grade is like a 70-75, it sucks, well I suck at math no matter how hard I try. I want to go into college for physics, animation, and drawing. Im really good at physics but my math is horrible, so is there any chance of me getting into college?
You are good at physics in high school. Physics in college, as a major, is dependent on calculus and advanced mathematics. In addition, you'll have to take Calc I, Calc II, Multivariate Calc, and Differential Equations - all advanced math classes - to get your degree. I don't think it's a fit for you.

Animation, however, or art/illustration - that could well be a fit. In fact, with your combo of interests - physics, animation, and drawing - I think you may like to major in computer animation or something highly related to that. It seems to suit your interests and strengths well.

College will require you to take, and pass, college level math. That doesn't mean you have to ace it (unless you try to major in physics). You just need to pass it.
Is there even a point in going to college if you suck at math?
Let's get this straight, you pay thousands of dollars to go to college, but if you suck at math, what's the point? Spend thousands on a useless liberal arts or history degree? Unless you're planning on majoring in something math or science-centric, you're screwed financially when you get out. I suck at math, why should I continue when I'll basically be broke and get a low paying job when I graduate?
Hi Gavin:

Math is a very important subject. Business is all about math and it applications. You need to study the history of Mathematics. However since you say you suck at Math than try my tips for doing better in it:

1) Read the problem through; until you understand it. Take your time and work it one step at a time. Don't rush it -your more apt to make mistakes doing this way than when your doing it slow allow your mind to work the problem out ( Think of it as a puzzle, the pieces will come together only one piece at a time. So do it one step at a time)

2) Look for clue words like: sum, more than,less than, greater,multiplied,divided by..etc for all word problems

3) Look for given equation, variables, etc

4) Find out what the problem is asking you to solve for .

5) Write "Given: " , than write down what is given, than write down, What are you solving for?

6) If you have to rearrange the equation in order to solve it, than write out step by step what math operation your using on it to solve it, if you have to rearrange it otherwise do # 7.

7) Write step by step what Math operation your using to solve for it . This will make it easier for you to backtrack it and see what you did wrong; if you made error in your math - if your proof for it , doesn't check and equal

8) While doing number 6 and 7:

Always Pay Attention To the Signs . This the one number reason why people get wrong answers in Math. When they are solving there math problems. So please take your your time in doing it, if you rush it , your more than likely to make errors.

9) Do a Proof to prove your answer is correct By writting "Proof:" - The reason for this : Sometimes you might think you have the right answer when your really got the wrong one but this will tell you right away. { Remember # 8, you might have made a error in your signs.} Doing the proof for it, will catch it, if you did make a mistake. So do the following:

10) Write your original equation down. Plug in your numbers, than write step by step what Math operation your using to solve for it . If this does not check and equal than back track from the Given point to the proof and see if your answer is right. if it is? than check the proof and when you find were you made your error at . Correct it than solve it again and redo the proof again until it check and equals

11) Make sure you put the units on the end of the final answer . Some teachers will mark it wrong, if it not there,

Here a example of of a math problem so you get a idea of how to do one :

Example:

A spherical tank need to hold 100 cubic feet of water, using the formula V= 4/3*pi*r^3 , and pi = 3.14159258, what is the radius of the tank:

Step 1 :

Given :

pi = 3.14159258
V = 4/3 * pi* r^3
V= 100
We are solving for r

Step 2

V = 4/3 * pi* r^3 - original equation

100 = 4/3* 3.14159258 * r^3 - Substitution of V, and pi

100* 3/4 = 4/3* 3.1415258 * r^3 * 3/4 - Multiplying the multiplicative inverse of a number to both sides of the equation to move it to the other side of it

300/4 = 3.14159258 * r^3 - Multiplication

75 = 3.14159258 * r^3 - Division

75 * 1/3.14159258 = 3.14159258* r^3 * 1/3.14159259 - Multiplying the multiplicative inverse of a number to both sides of the equation to move it to the other side of it

75/3.14159258 = r^3 - Multiplication

23.873242023000 = r^3 - Division

23.873242023000 ^ (1/3) = (r ^ 3)^(1/3) - taking the cube root of both sides of the equation to remove the cube

2.879411933968 = r - Doing or solving the cube root

The answer for r is 2.879411933968 feet

Proof:

prove that - when r = 2.879411933968, pi = 3.14159258 and v = 100 cubic feet it make the V = 4/3 * pi* r^3 true

V = 4/3 * pi* r^3 - original equation

100 = 4/3 * 3.14159258* 2.879411933968^3 - substitution of r,V,pi

100 = 4.1887904* 2.879411933968^3 - Multiplication and Division of 4/3 and pi

100 = 4.1887904 * 23.87324202301 - solving or taking the cube of r

100 = 100 - Multiplication

It checks and equals

The answer for r is 2.879411933968 feet

Granted doing this, takes a lot of time; but it will give you the right answers every time; or at least catch your wrong answers before you write it down and it will save your bacon every time , A lot of right answers is better than a lot of wrong answers don't you think.

also write in a notebook any tips, tricks or math operation ( with some examples) in math, so you can refer too for help.

I hope this helps.
Why do college pubs suck so much?
Mine frigging sucks. They are only open on thursday nights and half the time they close down without notice due to stupid reasons such as no heat in the room or not overloaded facilities. Like today for example, they kept advertising special pub night with alcohol at low prices multiple times the past week, and guess what, they close without any notice and don't even open for a whole week. Even when they are open, very few people even attend. The most I've seen was 200 people from a college with 40,000 students. How pathetic is that?
I guess it has to do with where you live. Actually i live near the U of MD and a near by pub might be losing their liquor license because they got caught serving to someone under 21. plus they were in the news because some people that were there got stabbed.
Does freshman year of college really suck with girls or what?
I am a freshman in college. I go to parties all the time it just seems like the girls somehow know im a freshman and just dont know what to do? How should i aproach college girls at a party? What is the first thing to say to a girl at a party?
Well, at a party girls probably don't want to be chatted up...so ask her to dance or something like that. Hey, what do I know, if she wants to talk she'll probably tell you. Do what your body tells you to do. In my opinion parties are busts.

Forget parties! Go to a club!! Much more fun ;]
Why do all the showers I use at home suck compared to college?
All the showers at college were so nice with the high pressure and could actually get clean. I now realize after being home that the ones here have barely any pressure at all and barely get shampoo out. Is there any way to fix this?? I've changed the shower head and it still sucks just as much.
Houses on wells have pressure regulators which can be adjusted (typically). As already noted, you need to ensure you don't raise the water pressure too high, and that you maintain about a 20 psi difference between the cut out and the cut in pressure for the well pump.
You can install the same equipment on city water, if you first bring the water line from the meter through a double check valve back flow preventer, then through a pump (controlled by the high / low pressure pressure switch) and into a hydrostatic tank which then feeds the house. Work this extensive will be a bit pricey and will require a permit - but you'll be able to dial in the pressure you want!
Why do some great college football players suck badly when they enter the NFL?
There's at least 7 players I know that were good or great players in college but now aren't so good anymore in the NFL.
A variety of reasons. Sometimes great college players aren't athletic enough for the NFL. Sometimes the scheme they played in college doesn't translate to the pros, like an option quarterback. Injuries can play a part, or plain old laziness. Once a guy gets the millions, he stops caring. Last but not least, it can be that his team sucks. Football is a team game, and usually takes a team for individual success, especially on offense.
Does the 1st year of college always suck?
all the underclassman dorms suck,they don't have as many privileges are upperclassman,boring core courses.Sounds like no fun.
I'm just finishing up my first year in college and I think its been pretty nice. Our dorm isn't exactly awesome but it's not terrible either. I've had a great choice of classes and honestly I've really liked it. To each his own I guess. Depends on the school as well.
How do you tell your parents you suck at college?
I changed majors this semester to something that actually interests me in hopes of raising my GPA. I love the classes but I cannot seem to do well in any of them. I am a solid C student now, and I am working my hardest!
You should go to your adviser and talk to them about options for tutoring on campus. Most colleges receive grants to provide free tutoring services to students. Also, college is hard. Don't beat yourself up. C's earn degrees and some semesters will hit you harder than ever. I have made the presidents list twice, the deans list several times, had 2 C's and I think I am going to fail 1-3 classes this semester. I am only a year from graduating, but I will have to make some big changes if I want to make that graduation date. You should break any bad news to your parents as honestly as possible. They can be your best asset in deciding what is the next best choice to make, and if they do not like your choices, they will get over them and accept you because you are their guy and they love you.
Why does the TV service in my college dorm suck?
Well maybe I shouldn't say "suck" but it definitely provides considerably less than most advertised services today (i.e. DirecTV, Comcast, TurboHD, etc). There are only about 80 channels and only the four local stations (CBS, FOX, NBC, ABC, and WMHT (PBS)) are available in HD. I kind of wonder what exact service they even have.
Maybe they are trying to encourage you to study rather than watching TV!
If i suck at reading comprehension is college for me?
I was wondering if college would be for me.
i suck in almost all forms of literature.
i can read an entire passage, but i wont be
able to give u any facts about what i just read.
Don't be discouraged! Of course you will be successful if you work hard.
I went to one of the toughest university in Canada, and I saw a blind girl succeeding in scientific history class. I also know from a friend of mine a girl with dyslexia who was fairly successful.
Reading textbook is important but not everything. If you are not good at reading comprehension, focus on what you are good at (figures and facts, numbers, diagrams and visual form of learning etc).

If reading is hard, take point form notes while reading. Then just read over your notes many times. There are always ways.
